The Process: Ensemble Ex Materia is an international electroacoustic and experimental music collective that works by a single method. A drone is sent to each performer-composer, who responds alone, hearing no one else. Those recordings return and are cut, layered, and rebuilt into one continuous work. The result is collaborative electroacoustic music made ex materia, out of existing matter, rather than ex nihilo.
Jérôme Descamps, trombone. Descamps performs with free jazz and contemporary music ensembles and was a member of A.R.F.I. in Lyon. Today, he is a professor of trombone in Tahiti, French Polynesia.
Victoria Jordanova, harp. Jordanova is a composer, harpist, and multi-media artist. A leading harpist in new music, she is known for her singularity of vision [New Music Box].
Peter Vukmirovic Stevens, piano. Stevens is the ensemble’s founder and principal arranger. His illustrative music covers an extensive palette of sensibilities from concert music to sound art.
Strotter Inst., prepared turntables. Strotter has forged a unique path between art and music, performing on prepared turntables using cut-up vinyl and objects to create performances that are both concert and installation.
